A selection of Year 7 students were privileged to enjoy the Sistine Chapel Experience this week.

The Sistine Chapel Experience brings one of the world’s greatest artistic achievements to life through a spectacular immersive experience in Sydney as part of Sydney’s Vivid festival. This experience offered students the opportunity to experience the wonder and beauty of Renaissance catholic art through an interactive exhibition. They benefited from a guided group tour of the artwork and exhibition, were provided with insight into the intersection of faith, politics and culture and had the opportunity to consider how art offers a response to fundamental questions about existence.

This afternoon, our Year 12 students enjoyed a fantastic time with Year 12 students from De La Salle Caringbah, putting their creativity to the test in a cookie decorating challenge. The afternoon was filled with laughter, teamwork, friendly competition and some truly impressive decorating skills. Every group put in a tremendous effort, making it incredibly difficult to choose a winner. However a big
congratulations to “The Universe” team, whose creativity and teamwork earned them the top prize!  🌟🏆

We look forward to more opportunities to connect, collaborate, and create together. #dlscaringbah #olmcburraneer #creativecompetition

And they are off. The Red Earth Immersion begins with an early morning flight to Cape York. Seven days on Homeland, building relationships with the Guugu Yimithirr and Kuku Yalanji clan. No mobiles, no technology, no reception, outback camping and topped off with snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef. #capeyorkimmersion #olmcburraneer #sydneycatholicschools

Why Year 7 at OLM Have No Laptops or Phones at School
Phones and laptops increase distraction and reduce attention in class.

Research: The American Psychological Association (2024) reports that students’ divided attention, often caused by digital devices, has negative consequences for learning, leading many educators to call for stricter classroom tech policies.

At OLM, this research supports our decision to begin Year 7 with no laptops or phones.

That’s the OLM approach for Year 7.
