On 12th December, many around the world celebrated the foundation day of the order of the Sisters of Mercy.

On that day in 1831 Catherine McAuley and her two companions, Mary Ann Doyle and Elizabeth Harley, took their vows as the first Sisters of Mercy and began a religious community that was dedicated to serving the destitute.

Catherine McAuley spent her entire inheritance building a home to educate children and care for women in need and her “House of Mercy” still endures today.
